The Best Toaster Oven Conventional Or Convection?

The toaster ovens that are on the current market shouldn't even be called toaster ovens because they are able to perform so many functions. They grill, broil, bake and some even have rotisseries! With costs from around $20 - $250 bucks, you could be scratching your head attempting to pick which is the right one for you.
To add to the puzzlement you have yet another factor to consider. Do you want aregular toaster oven or a convection toaster oven?
Convection versions cook in just the same was as standard ovens; the single difference between the 2 is that inside a convection oven there is a fan that circulates the heat evenly around the cooker. The fan does not bring in the air from the outside, so there is no danger of peppering your cupcakes with dust!
Convection toaster ovens are heated via elements at the top and the bottom and the fan will blow around the hot air within to be sure that everything is cooking at exactly the same temperature.
Is this necessary in a stove that may be less than one cubic foot capacity? Many say a definite yes. Is it just another unnecessary addition that manufacturers have thrown in to make their product seem more advanced? Everyone from busy moms to restaurant cooks will say definitely not.
Most cafe kitchens use convection toaster ovens. Why? Because the food comes out looking more uniform and by using convection the food cooks more quickly and the results are rather more even and consistent. Of course modern traditional ovens also cook fast, but regularly inconsistently, as there are hot spots within the oven. You have probably noticed if you place a tray of cupcakes in the oven, some come out a different color to others ; this is due to these hot spots.
Everything from casseroles and roasts to cakes and quiches can be cooked in both sorts of toaster ovens, it doesn't matter, but if you are ever short of a 2nd oven or don't really wish to heat up your whole house with your main oven then you most likely will go with a convection style.
Another major advantage with the convection option is they need somewhat less cooking time than a standard toaster oven and you can turn down the heat by up to 25 degrees. The manufacturer's manual should give you guidance on that and some recipes too. Since they also take a little less cooking time your food will be prepared faster, and potentially save some power too.
Whichever you choose, be it standard over convection, you will save power and also cleaning time as the toaster oven is so much faster and simpler to clean than a huge stove.
Lots of decisions! If you live on baked potatoes and warmed up pizza slices, you can most likely go with a conventional toaster oven, but if you'd like to have essentially a 2nd oven that cooks faster than your main range, in a lot less space, then go for the convection.
